Specialists at The Foot Institute – Medicine Hat specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Doctors spend an average of 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programmes lie inside these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.

At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received considerable healthcare instruction with a main focus on issues pertaining to the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are studied to treat problems ranging from conventional afflictions for example, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more puzzling for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical training which give them the expertise necessary to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors also have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait abnormalities allows a Foot doctor to develop shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and reduce the chances of numerous troubles which the feet commonly experience.
