Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Fort McMurray - Thickwood Heights specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend approximately a decade in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles typical medical school and in reality several podiatry training programs are contained inside these schools. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received thorough medical education with an importance on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. They are qualified to handle problems ranging from standard afflictions like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more complicated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical training which furnish them the skill necessary to carry out surgical treatment on those conditions that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it easy for a Foot doctor to create shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and protect against a large number of problems which the feet regularly encounter.
