Edmonton Downtown Clinic Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Edmonton Downtown specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our doctors devote approximately 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and as a matter of fact a number of podiatry programmes lie within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 - 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have acquired encompassing healthcare education with a stress on problems involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are educated to care for issues extending from basic disorders such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more puzzling such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have thorough surgical instruction which furnish them the experience crucial to perform surgical treatment on those complications that are best handled through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait deviations enables a Foot doctor to create footwear and orthotics that can provide pain relief and minimize the risk of many problems which the feet generally encounter.
