Calgary Downtown Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Calgary Downtown concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors spend around ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and in fact many podiatry programmes are contained within these academic institutions. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.

At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received thorough medical instruction with an emphasis on problems regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are qualified to care for concerns stretching from common problems for instance, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are a lot more puzzling for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have considerable surgical training which provide them the experience vital to perform surgery on those concerns that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it possible for a Podiatric doctor to create footwear and orthotics which can provide pain relief and help prevent many conditions which the feet frequently experience.
