Calgary Downtown Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Podiatrists here at The Foot Institute – Calgary Downtown concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists put in approximately ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and in fact a number of podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have acquired extensive medical education with an emphasis on issues concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are educated to manage complications ranging from usual afflictions for example, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more intricate such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have considerable surgical education which provide them the skill needed to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best managed through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors likewise have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations enables a Podiatric doctor to develop footwear and orthotics which can provide pain relief and avoid numerous conditions which the feet commonly encounter.
