Calgary Downtown Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Doctors at The Foot Institute – Calgary Downtown specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors put in an average of 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and various podiatry programs are located within these academic institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have obtained significant medical training with an importance on problems involving the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to care for issues ranging from regular ailments such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more sophisticated for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical training which give them the practical experience necessary to carry out surgery on those problems that are best handled through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait irregularities enables a Podiatrist to develop footwear and orthotics which can provide pain relief and defend against a large number of problems which the feet regularly encounter.
