Health professionals at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists put in an average of 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles traditional medical school and in fact many podiatry programs are located inside these academic institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received encompassing medical training with a main focus on issues regarding the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are educated to treat complications ranging from usual afflictions such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more sophisticated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical education which provide them the practical experience necessary to execute surgical treatment on those issues that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait problems makes it possible for a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and avoid numerous problems which the feet regularly experience.
