Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialise in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists devote approximately a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and in fact numerous podiatry programmes lie within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have received extensive healthcare education with a main focus on complications pertaining to the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are studied to treat difficulties ranging from usual disorders such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more obscure like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have considerable surgical training which provide them the skill required to perform surgery on those complications that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and reduce the chances of a large number of issues which the feet routinely encounter.
