Medical professionals at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend approximately 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and as a matter of fact several podiatry programs are located inside these schools. Upon securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received thorough healthcare training with a main focus on problems involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to manage problems ranging from general problems for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more obscure such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have thorough surgical education which provide them the experience essential to perform surgical treatment on those issues that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait deviations enables a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics that can offer pain relief and reduce the chances of many issues which the feet normally experience.
