Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors spend about a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles standard medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programs lie inside these institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained substantial medical training with an emphasis on conditions pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are educated to treat difficulties stretching from familiar ailments for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more obscure for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have extensive surgical instruction which provide them the expertise crucial to carry out surgery on those complications that are ideally handled through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Comprehending biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it easy for a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and avoid many conditions which the feet commonly encounter.
