Physicians at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our doctors invest approximately 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to regular medical school and in fact numerous podiatry programs are located inside these academic institutions. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received thorough healthcare training with an emphasis on issues pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are studied to treat problems extending from standard ailments for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more obscure for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have considerable surgical education which provide them the practical experience required to conduct surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait problems permits a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and avoid countless troubles which the feet frequently experience.
