Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. They devote approximately 10 years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and in point of fact many podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received comprehensive healthcare training with an emphasis on conditions regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are instructed to treat problems stretching from common ailments such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more sophisticated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical training which provide them the skill needed to execute surgery on those issues that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait deviations permits a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics that can give pain relief and prevent many issues which the feet regularly encounter.
