Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists invest approximately ten years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles regular medical school and several podiatry programs are located within these academic institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have acquired significant health care training with an emphasis on conditions regarding the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are taught to manage problems extending from general conditions for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are far more puzzling like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical training which give them the expertise crucial to execute surgical treatment on those troubles that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities enables a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and reduce the chances of a large number of troubles which the feet regularly encounter.
