Podiatrists here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists invest approximately ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in reality quite a number podiatry programmes are contained within these institutions. Upon procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.

At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received encompassing healthcare training with a stress on issues concerning the ankles and feet. They are taught to address concerns stretching from regular afflictions such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more complicated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical instruction which provide them the skill needed to execute surgical treatment on those troubles that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait irregularities enables a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and defend against countless problems which the feet commonly encounter.
