Physicians at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists devote an average of ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry training programs are located within these schools. After getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Doctors have acquired comprehensive medical training with a concentration on problems involving the ankles and feet. They are studied to manage conditions extending from typical problems for instance, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more obscure for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which give them the practical experience crucial to execute surgical treatment on those troubles that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Foot doctor to design footwear and orthotics which can give pain relief and help prevent countless problems which the feet normally encounter.
