Physicians at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors put in about 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to traditional medical school and as a matter of fact various podiatry training programs lie within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have obtained considerable medical training with an emphasis on conditions regarding the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are educated to treat problems ranging from conventional conditions for example, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more obscure such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have extensive surgical education which furnish them the experience necessary to carry out surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it easy for a Podiatrist to create footwear and orthotics that can give pain relief and help prevent many complications which the feet commonly encounter.
