Physicians at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest an average of ten years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in fact various podiatry programs are located within these schools. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Doctors have gained thorough healthcare training with an emphasis on issues pertaining to the feet and ankles. They are trained to treat complications stretching from general conditions for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are a lot more complex such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical instruction which provide them the practical experience necessary to execute surgery on those issues that are best remedied through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Recognizing biomechanics and gait problems empowers a Podiatrist to develop footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and protect against many problems which the feet generally experience.
