Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. They spend about ten years in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and actually several podiatry programmes are contained within these academic institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.

Upon the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have received comprehensive health care education with a concentration on concerns pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to treat complications stretching from normal problems for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more challenging for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical education which provide them the practical experience required to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally handled through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors furthermore have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it easy for a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and prevent a large number of complications which the feet routinely encounter.
