Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists invest approximately 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and in fact several podiatry training programs are located within these institutions. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have obtained considerable medical training with a focus on complications concerning the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are studied to treat concerns varying from standard problems for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more complex for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have significant surgical instruction which supply them the prior experience necessary to execute surgical treatment on those concerns that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait abnormalities permits a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and avoid numerous troubles which the feet commonly encounter.
