Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Doctors put in approximately ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and as a matter of fact various podiatry training programs are contained inside these schools. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received considerable medical training with a main focus on issues concerning the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are taught to deal with concerns ranging from general problems such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more complicated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical education which provide them the skill required to execute surgery on those problems that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities enables a Podiatric physician to design footwear and orthotics which can provide pain relief and protect against many problems which the feet regularly experience.
