Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors devote approximately 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and as a matter of fact various podiatry training programs are contained inside these schools. Upon procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received comprehensive medical instruction with an emphasis on concerns regarding the ankles and feet. They are instructed to handle concerns extending from typical ailments for example, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more challenging such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which give them the practical experience needed to perform surgery on those issues that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute likewise have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait irregularities facilitates a Podiatric doctor to develop shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and defend against many issues which the feet regularly encounter.
