Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Camrose provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists spend approximately 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry programmes lie within these academic institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.
At the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have acquired significant healthcare training with an emphasis on difficulties pertaining to the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to care for problems stretching from normal problems for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more puzzling like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have extensive surgical instruction which provide them the skill crucial to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally managed through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and protect against countless conditions which the feet typically encounter.
