Health professionals at The Foot Institute – Camrose focus on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors invest about 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles regular medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes are contained within these institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have received considerable health care training with an emphasis on complications concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are taught to care for problems varying from familiar disorders such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more challenging like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical education which give them the practical experience needed to execute surgical treatment on those conditions that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations facilitates a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and reduce the chances of many complications which the feet normally encounter.
