Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialise in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend around 10 years in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry training programs lie inside these institutions. Upon securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have obtained wide-ranging medical education with a concentration on problems concerning the feet and ankles. They are skilled to handle concerns stretching from familiar conditions for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more complex including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have extensive surgical training which supply them the expertise necessary to perform surgical treatment on those troubles that are ideally managed through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Recognizing biomechanics and gait irregularities allows a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and avoid countless troubles which the feet regularly encounter.
