Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie focus on the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. They put in an average of ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to general medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes are contained within these institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have obtained thorough medical training with a concentration on conditions regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are skilled to handle difficulties varying from basic ailments for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more perplexing for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical instruction which provide them the experience needed to conduct surgical treatment on those issues that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics that can offer pain relief and avoid many problems which the feet generally experience.
