Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They devote approximately 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry programmes are located inside these schools. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have acquired significant health care training with an importance on issues concerning the ankles and feet. They are trained to manage problems stretching from normal afflictions such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more puzzling like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical education which provide them the expertise required to perform surgical treatment on those conditions that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it easy for a Foot doctor to develop footwear and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and help prevent many complications which the feet routinely experience.
