Airdrie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists invest an average of 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in point of fact several podiatry programmes are located within these academic institutions. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received wide-ranging healthcare training with an emphasis on issues pertaining to the feet and ankles. They are instructed to manage concerns ranging from standard conditions for example, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more challenging for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have extensive surgical training which give them the expertise needed to perform surgery on those conditions that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics which can give pain relief and minimize the risk of a large number of troubles which the feet normally encounter.
