Podiatrists here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors devote an average of a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in fact several podiatry training programs lie within these institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.

At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have obtained comprehensive health care education with a main focus on problems regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to manage problems extending from general problems such as ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more sophisticated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical instruction which furnish them the expertise crucial to perform surgical treatment on those conditions that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors also have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and protect against many complications which the feet frequently encounter.
