Physicians at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors devote an average of 10 years in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and in fact various podiatry training programs lie inside these institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
Upon the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have obtained considerable healthcare training with a main focus on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are taught to deal with issues extending from simple ailments like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more obscure like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical training which give them the prior experience needed to conduct surgery on those issues that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors additionally have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities enables a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and reduce the chances of many complications which the feet generally encounter.
