Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists put in approximately 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and several podiatry programmes are located inside these academic institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have gained extensive healthcare education with a main focus on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are qualified to treat complications ranging from standard ailments for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more challenging for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have considerable surgical training which furnish them the experience vital to perform surgical treatment on those concerns that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait deviations facilitates a Podiatric physician to develop footwear and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and minimize the risk of many troubles which the feet regularly encounter.
