Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists devote approximately 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact various podiatry programs lie inside these schools. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have obtained extensive health care training with an emphasis on difficulties pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are qualified to manage issues stretching from standard disorders like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more challenging for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have extensive surgical education which supply them the expertise essential to execute surgery on those problems that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and reduce the chances of numerous problems which the feet generally encounter.
