Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our doctors spend approximately 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in reality quite a number podiatry training programs are contained within these institutions. Upon procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have obtained extensive medical education with an emphasis on issues regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are instructed to treat issues varying from standard ailments for instance, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more sophisticated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have significant surgical training which give them the skill needed to execute surgery on those troubles that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities allows a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and reduce the chances of numerous troubles which the feet normally encounter.
