Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend approximately 10 years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and actually several podiatry programs are located within these academic institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have obtained thorough medical education with a focus on problems involving the feet and ankles. They are studied to address difficulties ranging from basic ailments for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more puzzling for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical education which furnish them the prior experience necessary to perform surgery on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait deviations makes it easy for a Foot doctor to create shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and help prevent many issues which the feet routinely encounter.
