Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists invest an average of 10 years in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and as a matter of fact many podiatry training programs are contained inside these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have received comprehensive healthcare training with an emphasis on concerns pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to deal with problems ranging from standard afflictions for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more complex including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical instruction which provide them the expertise needed to perform surgical treatment on those concerns that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors likewise have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Podiatric doctor to design footwear and orthotics which can give pain relief and protect against many problems which the feet commonly encounter.
