Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie concentrate on the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. They spend approximately a decade in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and several podiatry programs are contained within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have acquired thorough healthcare education with a stress on problems regarding the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to treat difficulties ranging from general disorders for instance, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more intricate including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical instruction which supply them the practical experience necessary to execute surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors furthermore have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait problems enables a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and minimize the risk of countless conditions which the feet usually encounter.
