Health professionals here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists put in an average of a decade in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and several podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have obtained wide-ranging health care training with an emphasis on difficulties involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to deal with difficulties ranging from normal ailments for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more sophisticated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have thorough surgical instruction which furnish them the expertise necessary to conduct surgery on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Recognizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it easy for a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and protect against many complications which the feet regularly encounter.
