Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie concentrate on the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. They spend about ten years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and actually numerous podiatry programmes are located inside these institutions. Upon securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 - 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have received considerable medical training with a focus on difficulties concerning the feet and ankles. They are taught to treat issues extending from usual ailments for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more sophisticated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical education which furnish them the practical experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those conditions that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait problems facilitates a Podiatric physician to develop shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and avoid many conditions which the feet regularly encounter.
