Medical professionals here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors invest about ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry programmes are located within these institutions. Upon receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
Upon the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have acquired comprehensive medical training with an emphasis on issues pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are qualified to manage complications ranging from conventional afflictions such as ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more obscure for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical education which furnish them the practical experience required to execute surgery on those conditions that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities enables a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and prevent a large number of troubles which the feet routinely encounter.
