Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists put in an average of 10 years in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to standard medical school and in reality quite a number podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. Upon achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have obtained substantial medical training with a concentration on problems regarding the feet and ankles. They are skilled to deal with problems ranging from basic problems like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more challenging including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have extensive surgical training which furnish them the experience crucial to perform surgical treatment on those conditions that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait irregularities allows a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and minimize the risk of many issues which the feet frequently experience.
