Health professionals at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists put in approximately 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and in reality several podiatry programmes are located inside these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received comprehensive health care education with an emphasis on conditions concerning the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to treat complications extending from standard disorders for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more challenging including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have considerable surgical education which give them the skill necessary to conduct surgical treatment on those conditions that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities empowers a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and help prevent many issues which the feet normally encounter.
