Doctors at The Foot Institute – Camrose focus on the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. They devote about 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in fact numerous podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.
Upon the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have gained considerable health care training with an importance on difficulties involving the ankles and feet. They are instructed to deal with problems ranging from commonplace problems such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more puzzling including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have significant surgical education which give them the prior experience necessary to perform surgery on those complications that are best handled through surgical treatment.
Foot Institute Doctors also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait peculiarities permits a Foot doctor to design footwear and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and reduce the chances of many issues which the feet regularly encounter.
