Doctors at The Foot Institute – Camrose specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend about ten years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles traditional medical school and in fact a number of podiatry training programs are contained inside these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received thorough medical instruction with an attention to on problems regarding the feet and ankles. They are studied to manage difficulties ranging from simple afflictions like ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more obscure for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have considerable surgical education which give them the expertise necessary to carry out surgical treatment on those concerns that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and defend against many problems which the feet normally encounter.
