Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Camrose specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They invest an average of 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and in reality several podiatry programs are contained inside these schools. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have received wide-ranging health care education with an emphasis on complications regarding the ankles and feet. They are studied to care for conditions ranging from typical ailments like ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more intricate for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical education which give them the experience necessary to execute surgery on those conditions that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait problems facilitates a Podiatric physician to develop shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and prevent many issues which the feet routinely encounter.
