Doctors at The Foot Institute – Camrose focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors spend approximately a decade in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles general medical school and in fact many podiatry programs are contained within these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.
Upon the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have obtained substantial medical training with a stress on problems involving the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are taught to handle concerns varying from common problems like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more obscure like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which provide them the practical experience needed to carry out surgery on those concerns that are ideally managed through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors likewise have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait irregularities permits a Podiatric doctor to create footwear and orthotics that can provide pain relief and avoid many issues which the feet typically encounter.
