Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Camrose focus on the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. They put in an average of ten years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry training programs lie inside these academic institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have obtained extensive medical training with a stress on complications involving the feet and ankles. They are trained to deal with difficulties stretching from general conditions like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more sophisticated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical education which provide them the experience required to carry out surgical treatment on those troubles that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait problems enables a Podiatric physician to design footwear and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and prevent a large number of troubles which the feet typically encounter.
