Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Camrose specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists put in an average of 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and in fact many podiatry programmes are located within these institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have received comprehensive healthcare training with an emphasis on problems involving the ankles and feet. They are trained to treat conditions extending from normal ailments like fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more obscure like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical training which supply them the expertise required to execute surgical treatment on those problems that are best handled through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Comprehending biomechanics and gait abnormalities allows a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and reduce the chances of many troubles which the feet regularly encounter.
