Physicians at The Foot Institute – Camrose concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors invest approximately 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in point of fact quite a number podiatry programmes are contained inside these schools. Upon securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have obtained extensive medical training with an importance on conditions concerning the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are skilled to handle difficulties varying from familiar afflictions like fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more complicated such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical training which provide them the experience required to carry out surgery on those complications that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait deviations empowers a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics which can give pain relief and help prevent many conditions which the feet frequently encounter.
