Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Camrose specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists spend around 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in fact a number of podiatry training programs are located within these institutions. Upon receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
Upon the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received comprehensive medical training with an importance on issues pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to manage problems ranging from basic afflictions such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more perplexing such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which supply them the experience needed to execute surgical treatment on those problems that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait irregularities facilitates a Podiatric physician to create shoes and orthotics that can offer pain relief and defend against many complications which the feet frequently experience.
