Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Camrose focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend around 10 years in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles general medical school and actually many podiatry training programs are located within these schools. Upon achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive medical training with an emphasis on conditions regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to manage problems stretching from general disorders such as ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more obscure for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have extensive surgical instruction which furnish them the expertise necessary to conduct surgery on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait deviations permits a Podiatric physician to develop shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and protect against many problems which the feet regularly experience.
