Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend approximately ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles usual medical school and in reality a number of podiatry training programs are located within these institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have acquired comprehensive medical education with a main focus on concerns concerning the ankles and feet. They are taught to handle complications extending from common problems for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more complex for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical instruction which give them the skill crucial to execute surgery on those troubles that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it easy for a Podiatrist to develop footwear and orthotics which can give pain relief and help prevent many problems which the feet commonly experience.
