Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors devote about a decade in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and as a matter of fact various podiatry programmes lie within these institutions. Upon securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have acquired substantial medical training with a stress on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are instructed to treat issues ranging from conventional conditions for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are a lot more complicated for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which furnish them the practical experience required to perform surgery on those problems that are best managed through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait irregularities allows a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and help prevent many troubles which the feet regularly experience.
