Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists devote an average of 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and a number of podiatry programs lie within these institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
Upon the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received considerable medical training with an emphasis on problems involving the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to care for issues stretching from familiar afflictions for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more perplexing for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical education which give them the experience required to carry out surgical treatment on those problems that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Recognizing biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Foot doctor to develop shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and protect against a large number of troubles which the feet generally encounter.
